The state of NJ requires 500 hours of course curriculum approved by the New
Jersey Board for Massage and Bodywork Therapy. This works out to be about a
total of 6 months that includes hands-on and classroom work. Day and Evening
class options are available. After completion of 500 hours, you will need to sit for
the state board licensure exam called the MBLEx.
Massage therapy school tuition is less expensive than the cost of a four-year
college degree, but the costs vary widely program to program. Tuition can be as
low as $7,000 or as high as $20,000 for a 6 to 8 month program which normally
includes the registration fee and books. The most important thing to consider when
evaluating how much tuition you can afford is how high is your income potential
in your area once you are licensed. Massage therapists in the Atlantic City area are
averaging $36 per hour in 2022.
-An applicant will need at least 500 hours completed by an accredited program and
then pass the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx). The State of
New Jersey also requires proof of massage therapy liability insurance coverage.
This coverage is usually around $100 to $150 per year depending on the company
you choose.
